Wāhine in Film Mixer 2018

It was another year of Connect, Collaborate, and Corroborate! at the 2018 Wāhine in Film Mixer! The Mixer was launched 3 years ago with the idea of bringing together all the women and girls who had films screening at the Hawaii International Film Fest so that we could all go and support each other. This year, we hosted during brunch hours. Over 50 people joined the mixer and had the opportunity to make new friends or catch up with older ones.

Doors opened at 11:30 and guests were welcomed by Katia and Taylour (HWF board members), who gave a short introduction on the unfolding of the mixer, its different activities, such as the sign up to the Filmmaker Database and the share your thoughts wall on "What intersectional gender equity means to you and why you think it is important."

Pumehana welcomed our guest to the HWF informational table, and Liberty facilitated the sign in into the Filmmaker database process.

As the announcements were complete, she invited each guest to share about themselves so that the entire group had a chance to know who was in the space. So much talent in the room! Everybody had a great time, and we are very grateful for all the amazing wāhine who made it to the mixer. Not only we really need each other, we also need to cherish each other. Yes, letʻs connect, collaborate, and corroborate more to make this a better industry for women and girls.

This was a collaboration with Pacific Islanders in Communications and Hawaii International Film Festival. Special thanks to Shirley Thompson Editorial for the Mimosa corner and Stan for taking pictures!

Till next year, a hui ho!
