About the event
This introductory workshop will ignite a spark in future animators through live demonstrations, practical techniques, and engaging crafts! The workshop will have activities ranging from thaumatrope making and flipbooks to clip draw overs and character design studies, each activity tailored to appeal to a different aspect of the animation pipeline. Students will learn how to define their tastes and develop their drive to express themselves in a way only animation can. Activities include and are not limited to:
- Multimedia exploration
- Comic making
- Live animation demos
- Cartoon/Anime/Game analysis
- Animation program crash course
- ...and more!
Instructor: Mirren Hollison ~ A graduate from UH Mānoa's Animation track, Mirren has storyboarded, conceptualized, and animated for Sina Ma Tinirau and Symphony of the Hawaii Rainforests. She is the recipient of the ACM Showcase's Best Comedy Award (2021) and has professional industry experience in animated television series. "I love to draw and have fun, and animation allows me to do both... for a salary! I like video games and cartoons and think there is something artistically valuable in every experience. I hope you are as excited as I am to talk about animation and draw together!"
Open to women and girls (cis/trans), femmes, non-binary, gender-fluid and gender-queer of all ages and all skill levels.
Time: 9:00 am to noon.
Dates: On Saturdays, from February 4 to February 25, 2023 [4 sessions]
