About the event

Learn how to ask questions, how to connect with the subject, how to listen,  how to film in a way that compliments/enhances the story, how to edit and put a story together.

In this workshop, we will review step by step the process of how to build a relationship and connection with the subject to better understand their personal story and come up with a sample of interview questions.

Students will learn how to create a shot list, how to organize footage, pull selects from b-roll and interview, the best practices for more efficient and effective editing, creating micro sequences/micro stories and compiling everything together to develop a story arc and exploring how to use editing techniques to provoke thought and evoke emotion.

Instructor: Shaneika Aguilar

Shaneika Aguilar's love for photography and filmmaking began in 2008 when she was still in middle school when she set out to learn and capture as much as possible, turning her assignments into mini-documentaries. The passion for digital storytelling followed her throughout high school and eventually became the career she is pursuing today. Shaneika won two regional Emmy Awards and five Pele Awards and has had the opportunity to work with several incredible people and brands, such as NMG Network, Urban Outfitters, SLAQR, Goodwill Hawaii, Black Letter Group, and so many more. Currently, she works with Redefined Weddings as a Lead Content Producer. Shaneika continues creating work that matters in this digital era and finding ways to make meaningful content in an ever-growing and ever-changing digital landscape.  With this workshop, Shaneika hopes we can find new and creative ways to approach our world with curiosity, humility, and empathy. May we continue to connect, learn and grow from each other.
